Wholly Crazy

As if you thought my Primal Lifestyle was crazy enough, I just wanted to forewarn you that I will be starting Whole 30 on April 1st. No chocolate, no dairy, no cheating, no joke. Just to freak you out even more, I'm going to try a 2 week meat only induction. Yeah, I know. Eating only one food group is very worrisome. I promise I'll still be alive come tax day ;)

Best of all, I just now realized that April is Easter and Mother's Day... aka the take out your all-the-chocolate-you-can-eat license and go to town with no second thoughts. WHAT WAS I THINKING?!

Yeah, already committed. This will be good for me in the long run.

There's no weighing in during the Whole 30, so I weighed in today-- 178.8. Up 10 lbs from where I should be. I don't blame primal. I blame the chocolate and other crap I've been manically binging on before I have to give it all up.

I hope you'll take the Whole 30 challenge, too, and do it with me. I'll see you on the other side!

Buh Bye Dairy

Nobody panic! I'm dropping dairy... temporarily. After whining on Mark's Daily Apple Forum about my frustration in being stalled, even after changing my eating habits, several cohorts were kind enough to check out my blog & inform me I'm on a Primal Junk Food diet. Hubba-wha?! I've cut out grains, delicious peanut butter, scrumptious legumes, and cut waaaay back on fruit (almost eliminating it), I thought I was doing soooo good, and now you all want me to drop dairy? *Sigh*
One of the posters changed my mind though. He related to me on a deep, emotional level, and I gave in. Okay, we'll give passing up dairy a try. I'm very sad, especially after recently discovering Talenti Gelato, and Fage full fat Greek yogurt *DIES*!

When I reach my goal weight, I'll try adding Fage back in, but only as a treat. Let's hope those days pass quickly! To eliminate all temptation for the rest of the week, I've had a total binge today, polishing off my cheese, heavy cream, gelato, and all things dairy. Tomorrow I will post my starting weight and resolve myself to critter and veggies. It should be interesting to see how it affects my running performance.

Speaking of running, I've been running around all week like a headless chicken. Thurs, Fri, and Sat, I was in a short play as a favor to my friend who was producing it as her college senior project. I am grateful for the opportunity, as it was my first acting gig in a decade. It was The Proposal by Anton Checkov. My character, Chubokov, turned into a slightly tipsy old lady. Both my mom and my friend said I was the star, even though I have the least amount of lines. That's right, my pretties, blow up my already over-inflated ego!

Saturday morning, I ran a 5k in SLC. It was the Running of the Leopards, mostly downhill. One of the roads was so not fair. We crossed a busy street directly toward a BAKERY, at BREAKFAST. I bet everyone would have run a whole lot faster if there was someone on the corner with doughnuts & a sign that read "Free while supplies last".
I was hoping for a new PR (which I got), but not as fast as I wanted. I blame shoelaces that came untied, and a mid-race misstep that resulted in a strained hammy. My finishing time was 40. I saw my mom, Andy, and Grace at the finish line and poured on the speed. I must have been booking it, cuz they didn't even see me smoke right past em, LOL. I was sad cuz I really wanted a picture of me passing the line. My good friend, Laura, who is also my racing buddy, finished a few minutes ahead of me (as usual!). We all went to Hogle Zoo afterwards. The Bactrian camel was multi-tasking by laying on his knees on the front end, and peeing, butt in the air, from the other. We laughed for a good 5 mins about it.

Good Week

It's gonna be a good week. The Lord continues to answer my prayers. Last week I asked Him to help me create my character more for the scene I'm in this week. Friday, my mom calls & asks if she can spend the week. Aha! I can follow the great Stone Face around for the week. Perfect! Thank You, Lord!
It gets better. As I just mentioned, my mom is in town. She will be able to see the scene I'm in. Also I have a 5k on Saturday, and we're going to the zoo after. My mom gets to see me race, go to the zoo with us, and see me act for the first time in a decade. Does the week get any better?

Went for a road run this morning. My road work is seriously lacking. 2 mins on pavement and I'm dead. Ma watched Grace while I went out. I did 3 miles in 47 mins. Not horrible, considering the first 15 mins is uphill.

PRIMAL EATS FOR TODAY:

1 cup chobani yogurt
3 large strawberries
1/2 a bowl of Noatmeal (1 oz each of hazelnuts, almonds, and macadamias, ground down to oatmeal consistency, warmed in microwave, served with heavy cream, stevia, and cinnamon)

I'm stuffed!

I think we're going out for dinner.

Seeing Green

Happy Irish Heritage Awareness Day!

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Today we are enjoying all things Irish. I am wearing hubby's lucky charm cereal pajama pants (which, I reckon, I'll have to relinquish when he gets home), a green ringer shirt that says "Everyone Loves an Irish Girl", and Grace is wearing her green "Everyone Loves a Lucky Girl" shirt. We kinda match. There is corned beef in the crock pot with beef stock and potatoes. There is chocolate mint gelato in the freezer for dessert. I have already enjoyed some Kerrygold Dubliner cheese. Tasty, tasty!

My legs are feeling a lot better today. Going to try to get a walk in at some point. Need to go get my blood drawn, too.

Someone told me yesterday that my Super Nog (containing a half pint of heavy cream, 6 eggs, nutmeg, and vanilla) is bad for me. Really? My size 6 jeans don't agree.

The Idiot's Guide to Running

Hello there! My name is Idiot, and today I'm going to share my #1 bestseller: The Idiot's Guide to Running. This guide is a bestseller, because it is short and so stupidly simple. You will be running 3 days a week. You will eat like a pig. See below.

Monday:
Get on a treadmill. I don't care if it's your first time. Walk 2 mins on 4.0. Slam it to 7.0 for 3 mins. Walk 3 mins. Warp speed to 8 two mins. Walk 5 cuz you're pretty sure your lung collapsed. Hammer out 5.0 for the last 5 mins. Crawl through 5 min cool down. By the way, you enjoy every second, cuz you're not thinking about what's going to happen when you wake up tomorrow. The speed was exhilarating, right?

Tuesday:
This is your rest day. Good thing too, cuz I don't think you'll be able to get out of bed after our little jog yesterday.

Wednesday:
Get back on the @#%* treadmill! We're going to walk out the pain today. Pain is weakness leaving the body. March on 4.0. Oh, did I mention we're going to run today? Better bump it up to 4.5. Now walk. Now run on 5. Now walk. Now run on 5.5. Cool down on 3.5. Doesn't that feel better?

Thursday:
Go for a 3-4 mile walk. You'll thank me tomorrow.

Friday:
Get on the treadmill. You can do it. Just think-- you'll have two whole days to rest after this. It's only a few minutes of your life. Punch in 4.2. Walk 5 mins. Run on 5 for 5. Walk 2 mins. Run 5. Walk 3. Run 5. Cool down 5. See? That wasn't so bad. Enjoy your weekend, sucker!

So, uh, yeah. I'm an idiot. Monday I went to gym. I hadn't run in at least a week. I forgot to stretch. Pounded out 2 & 1/4 miles in 30 mins. Woke up Tuesday pretty darn sore! Quads screaming at me by evening. ActivOn helped. The plan was to walk it out today, but Idiot here got ambitious and did a couple interval runs. Tomorrow we're going to really walk it out, and then launch an attack on Friday.

TODAY'S PRIMAL EATS:

Breakfast: Heavy Egg Nog-- 1 half pint heavy whipping cream, 6 eggs, stevia vanilla cream, nutmeg. Blend. Consume. 1200 cals!
Batty's Blueberry Butter Balls-- blueberries, butter, coconut. Is there anything better? Om, nom, nom.

Lunch: 5 oz London Broil

Dinner: Bacon wrapped chicken breast

Total damage: 1965 cals, 111 protein, 160 delicious fat (80 saturated), 9 carbs. 75% fat, 23% protein, 2% carbs.

Grace Eats Yogurt

Grace loves yogurt. I've been trying to keep up the habit ever since changing her diet, because I believe yogurt is just good for you. However, I have noticed extra "stuff" in the kid's yogurt, and not necessarily good things. Last paycheck I went ahead and bought an extra container of my favorite Greek yogurt, Chobani. This eliminates the problem I had with the extra "stuff". It took a while for Grace to warm up to the tangier taste, but with the help of a little stevia, she gobbles it right down. Haha, a spoonful of sugar really does help the medicine go down!
Today she asked for a little, just before nap time, which I obliged to, with some blackberries and a little stevia. I present to you, "Grace Eats Yogurt":

Kill Me Now

The Lord has a funny sense of humor... or, at least, a funny way of answering prayers.

As you may recall, I asked Him to help me break my internet addiction.
My husband accidentally knocked over my 30 oz mug of water on to my laptop.

On Fast Sunday, I asked the Lord to help me memorize my lines for the scene I'm in later this month.
Yesterday I woke up with a mild bout of vertigo. I was on couch much of the day... memorizing lines.

Of course it was no coincidence that my friend directing the scene wants my character to act drunk. If you've ever had vertigo, you know what it feels like to be drunk, without ever having touched your lips to drink.

By the way, the murder weapon above... ForeverSharp filleting knife. Stop freaking out, it's only blackberry juice. See, God? I have a sick sense of humor, too.

I Like Mondays

I know many people hate Mondays. I tend to like them. For one, God invented chocolate as an apology for Mondays. I happen to sell said chocolate. I also look forward to Monday as a chance to get out of the house and go to the gym, since I try to refrain from working out on Sundays (because it is the Sabbath). Yesterday was fast Sunday, irrefutably the longest Sunday of every month. I am still new to fasting on Sundays, ever since I stopped using my diabetes as a crutch. I don't know how y'all get through the 24 hrs without sleeping for 12 of them! Sleep tends to make fasting a whole lot easier, since you are not conscious enough to feel hungry. Also it is very hard to catch up on calories for the day, especially when you are eating clean. I ended up with 1200 cals yesterday, thanks to 6 oz of beef chuck, some greek yogurt, coconut manna, steamed veggies, and coconut milk. Can I tell ya how FUN it is to choke down 1200 cals in under 30 mins? Today I knocked back about 1400 cals in 10 mins! It must be a new record. By the way, did I mention you do NOT want to be around me when I get home from the gym after having IF for breakfast? I'm REALLY cranky. Note, not hungry. Just ornery. Which is funny cuz I'm perfectly pleasant while at the gym, but the second I leave, I turn into Franken-Mom. The primal egg nog I had with lunch made up the bulk of the calories. Counting the minutes until power-nap time! Primal Eats for today below.

PRIMAL EATS:
Breakfast: Big ol' bowl of intermittent fasting
Lunch: 7 oz beef chuck, primal egg nog, organic sauerkraut
Dinner: 4 oz tilapia, coconut milk custard
1790 calories, 86 protein, 28 carbs (24 net), 143 delicious fat
If you want to get technical, that's a macro breakdown of 74% fat, 20% protein, and 6% carb

Coconut Milk Custard, mmmm!

Primal Breakfast

*Grunt* Me Trish. Me eat omelette! Snarf.

This is an 8 egg omelette made with coconut milk, cheddar, olives, red bell pepper, ham, and baby spinach. It's breakfast for me an Andy (and a little for Grace).

I'm in tears... as in "OMG, it's so beautiful. Double rainbows and pansy-pooping unicorns"

The only thing that would've made it better is this bad boy:

It's a BACON-WRAPPED omelette! MWAHAHAHA.

Feasting up today so I can fast tomorrow. Happy weekend, everyone!

Taxes

Some people hate doing taxes. These people are usually the ones who have to pay. We love doing taxes, because we've always gotten a refund. Going in to get them done tonight. Looking forward to getting some extra income.

And I'm telling you this as an excuse to post my primal eats of the day.

Breakfast: Big bowl of intermittent fasting
Lunch: 4 slices uncured bacon, 2 eggs fried in leftover bacon goodness, 2 oz tillamook vintage cheddar, 2 tbsp coconut oil, 1 can tuna fish, 3 slices Oscar Mayer natural turkey slices
Dinner: Waldorf chicken salad
Cals: 1269, 24 carbs (19 net), 98 protein, 87 delicious fat (35 saturated)

Breathe

It's been go, go, go the last few days, and I feel like today is a chance to breathe. My primary presidency meeting (which we usually have on Wednesdays) got moved to last night, so we have a chance to spend time together tonight as a family. Grace completed her medical study, and Andy & I both agree that the money she garnered from it should go to her benefit. So tonight we will go mini golfing, let her pick out a toy at the store, and sign her up for summer day camp.

Actually had a chance to go to the gym today. Grace has had a little cold, and I felt like I could finally take her today. Did sprints on the treadmill, and a quick, easy weight session. Enjoying lunch now (today's primal eats below). Andy & I stayed up pretty late last night watching Biggest Loser & V, so a nap is in order today.

Oh, funny story. I recently asked the Lord to help me break my internet addiction. He tends to answer prayers in odd ways. My husband accidentally knocked over my 30 oz mug of water on to my laptop.
Luckily, I have the world's best husband. He felt so bad that he proceeded to break every nail on his fingers getting the keys off of my puter and getting all the moisture out. Rock on, Prince Charming <3

TODAY'S PRIMAL EATS:
Breakfast: Healthy serving of intermittent fasting
Lunch: 8 oz corned beef & organic sauerkraut with organic stone ground mustard
Afternoon snack: 4 eggs scrambled with coconut milk & 2 oz tillamook vintage cheddar
Dinner: bacon wrapped scallops with steamed veggies
1685 cals, 107g protein, 27g carbs (22g net), 122g healthy, delicious fats.
